Zebulon Sternberg

Zebulon Yonatan Sternberg was born in Hungary in 1880. He worked to save Jews in Hungary as part of the Mizrahi movement. The underground members of the youth movements were engaged in smuggling thousands of Jews to Romania (in an operation called "The Trip").

Members of the underground engaged in forgery and distribution of fake certificates, established 52 children's homes under the auspices of the Red Cross, built and found hiding places, disguised themselves as members of the "Arrow Cross" and took Jews out of the sheltered homes and other places, and worked in the "Glass House" to hide and save thousands of Jews.

In 1935 he immigrated to Israel, stayed there for 14 months, due to disturbances he lost his fortune and returned to Hungary.

He was supposed to receive a certificate for Israel, but it was taken from him and given to Rabbi Aharon Rokah, the Rebbe of Belez. Zebulon Sternberg finally managed to board Kastner's rescue train, but his strength was not up to the hardships of its passengers (who, as is known, initially arrived in Bergen-Belsen) and he died in Switzerland.
