Jewish 1943 Palestine Israel Zionist BEIT YITZHAK German Pioneers Booklet WWII
rare! The German farmers, Beit Yitzhak in 1943, World War II.
"... At a time when a large part of the world is busy with destruction, we were privileged to build, sow and plant in peace and tranquility, but in the process of building we united with the souls of our brothers who are taken to burial every day in all parts of the world.
Open graves stood before our eyes, graves of many and graves of individuals.
These are the graves of fallen members of the Israeli communities in Europe.
We mourn the loss of these souls, with sorrow and grief we remember them.
And we utter words without giving ourselves a full account of their deep meaning. With a quiet heart we say that they are going their way, the heroic way. Millions have fallen and many are still falling. Lights shadowed by fire, they hope and believe that the sun will still rise, that there will still be a resurrection for them and for us.
The man we had as a guide on our way, Arthur Rupin, died this year. The man of science and action, the noble spirit, the builder and teacher of all our settlements. I believe that we should mention his name with a sense of gratitude and reverence.
His memory will be kept in our hearts.
Already a year ago I had in mind to give an account in Hebrew, but I have to hold back, I am afraid to use a language that, despite my desire, is not familiar to my mouth. In particular, in a broad and multifaceted matter.
I started in Hebrew and I ask for your forgiveness and count on your agreement if I use the German language when I get to the point..."
Beit Yitzchak - 1943 -
"... I have the honor to tell you about the developments in our settlement in 1943..."
