Philip Bloch (1841-1923), rabbi and author, one of the founders of the Central Archive for the History of German Jews.
Born in Prussia on May 30, 1841. Studied at the University of Breslau, and with Frankel, Graetz and Jacob Bernays at the Jewish Theological Seminary; graduated with a doctorate in 1864; and received the title of Rabbi in 1867. organized a Jewish community school in Munich in 1869; and became the rabbi of the Israeltische Brüdergemeinde in Posen in 1871. He was first interested in religious-philosophical studies and the Haggadah, and later dedicated himself to historical research on Polish Jews.
